One accident, and your wife and children are gone. Years of guilt and loneliness after that, and no appetite left for anything. Now you are in your fifties, and for the first time there is a real chance to begin again.

That is exactly when something from your past turns up again, something that would rather keep you right where you are suffering. Your friends pull the other way, promise you a different path and even want to introduce you to someone new. Well meant, but it drops you into dilemmas you did not see coming.

What sets this apart from most titles here: the hero is not a student and not a guy in his twenties, and the relapses are part of the story rather than something the game skips. You decide whether to commit to one woman or build several relationships, and the women come with their own ambitions, their own feelings and their own hunger. There are side quests too, so the whole thing does not collapse into ticking girls off a list. And since On Distant Shores sits at 1.0 Final, you play the story all the way through.
